Pretty Up Your Peepers With PIXI Fairy Light Solo Shadows

Pixisoloshadow1 Pretty Up Your Peepers With PIXI Fairy Light Solo ShadowsHappy Easter everyone!

Hope you’re all having a great long weekend so far! My plans go as far as bumming a turkey dinner from relatives, buying myself half-price Easter candy and doing some much needed blogging – my idea of a perfect weekend haha.

Now, onto the good stuff! Since my small town recently got a Target, I’ve been stocking up on some harder to find beauty products from Sonia Kashuk and Pixi. But mostly Pixi. And it’s getting a bit out of hand. A sure sign that it’s time to share my findings on the good ol’ blog!

Today I have for you Pixi Fairy Light Solo Eyeshadows in Gilded Olive, Cocoa Haze and Antique Gold (in photo order). To be honest, I rarely purchase eyeshadow singles. If I’m going to buy eyeshadows I usually go for a larger palette or at least a palette with two or three shades so I’m sure to like at least one. Plus, I never hit pan on any eyeshadow. Ever. So the smaller they are the better, but in this case I snagged these three full-sized singles on Little Black Bag during a rare time when they had a big variety of cosmetics.

Even though it’s sold at Target, the price point is on par with a brand from Sephora or Department Store. These Fairy Light Solo Eyeshadows sell for $16.00 CAD each but when I got them on Little Black Bag I think they worked out to about $6.00 each (just by dividing my total by the number of items I received). Each shadow has 2.29g which is significantly larger than the amount of a MAC shadow single (1.5g) making the price a little easier to swallow. But do you even want to bother looking at price comparison if the product is comparable? Probably not. Here’s how they wear and swatch.

In the same order, our first Fairy Light Shadow Solo is in Gilded Olive. I’ve swatched them two ways so you can tell how they apply with a finger versus how they apply with a crease brush (e.l.f. Studio Contour Brush). As you can tell with Gilded Olive the pigment is awesome when applied with a finger but as soon as a brush is dipped into it, it’s greatly sheered out (as to be expected) and shows up a little bit muddy. Layering helps with this a lot and the shadow does wear really well throughout the day. With the name “Gilded Olive” you would assume this would be more green in real life, but it isn’t. It’s basically a black/brown base with green and gold shimmer. I really like to wear it as a liner to make my green eyes pop and it would look great for a different kind of smokey eye.

Cocoa Haze is a true matte shadow with a pretty sort of velvety finish to prevent it from looking chalky. The website describes this shade as a “Brownish Gray” which I greatly disagree with! This is a true warm brown that may even lean towards burgundy. This is a pretty colour but much more red than I wanted, still, it makes for a very nice defining crease shade and applies nicer than Gilded Olive with a brush.

Antique Gold is my favourite of the three but then again, I like light shimmery shadows! This colour is exactly as described – Antique gold. It’s essentially a shimmering beige with a more yellow undertone and really makes your eyes sparkle. I like to wear this on it’s own with a lot of mascara for a natural daytime eye. This applies a very dense pigment when applied with a sponge tip or finger but is too sheer when applied with a brush. It takes a lot of building to be able to receive a decent pay off.

All these colours wear well and with the exception of Gilded Olive, apply smoothly. I’d recommend them if there is a shade you REALLY love, remember, you’re getting a lot of product here, or I’d go with one of Pixi’s may seasonal palettes! The shadow quality is the same and you get to try a variety of different colours for a much lesser price.
