Demeter Foolproof Blending Duo’s and Trio’s Are Scentsational!

I’ve been a fan of Demeter fragrances for as long as I can remember. I’m pretty sure they were one of the first scents I was introduced to when I first started my beauty-loving obsession. Did you know that they’ve been around for 20 years now? That’s right, they started in 1996 and their first three fragrances were Dirt, Grass and Tomato. Their inspiration was the amazing natural scents of gardens and is also where the name, Demeter, came from as the greek goddess of agriculture.

Another thing Demeter is known for is making individual fragrances that are perfect for combining to make your own personal scent. Their latest inventions are signature duo and trio box sets that are perfectly mixed to make an amazing and unique fragrance all your own, that they like to call Foolproof Blending.

As part of the Canadian Beauty Bloggers Network, I was lucky enough to get the chance to try one of each of these amazing kits – the Clean Skin & Sunshine Duo and the Vanilla Blending trio.

Clean Skin & Sunshine Foolproof Blending Duo – $35.00 CAD

Let’s start with the Foolproof Blending Duo. Each duo kit contains two 1oz fragrances, in this case, Clean Skin and Sunshine, as well as one empty refillable bottle, 4 droppers and a funnel for spill-free blending. You can also customize the label using permanent markers to name your custom scent!

I was extremely excited to get this duo because these are two scents that I have purchased on their own before, but I never thought of mixing them together.20160213_163844

Sunshine is hard to describe, but it’s intoxicating! It’s very fresh but subtly sweet, like a warm spring day. It reminds me of something from my childhood but I can’t quite put my finger on what it is, although I know it had to do with carefree summers and lots of fun! Sunshine will truly lift your spirits and people will definitely wonder that that fresh, amazing scent is.

Clean Skin is one of my all time favourites. I’ve always been a fan of Clean (the brand) fragrances too. There’s just something about smelling like you’ve just stepped out of the shower or are wearing super clean, warm out of the dryer clothes. Clean Skin is much lighter and soapier than Sunshine with the slightest hint of fruit and vanilla. It is the perfect daytime or office scent because it isn’t overpowering and is sure not to offend anyone.

Once you mix these two together it’s like heaven! I prefer a couple more drops of Sunshine than Clean Skin but I keep them almost half-and-half. If you like fresh, light and clean scents that won’t overpower the room, this is the blending duo for you!

Foolproof Blending Base Note Trio in Vanilla – $45.00 CAD

Vanilla is my go-to scent. If there’s one thing I know I like, it’s any perfume that is vanilla based. I have a slight obsession with Lavanila so I was thrilled to see these show up in my mailbox as part of my testing kit!

The Foolproof Blending Trios are a bit different that the aforementioned Duos. These sets contain three 1oz fragrances but do not come with an empty bottle for mixing. Instead, they come with a whole whack of blending strips for you to be able to figure out which combination you like best. Another difference is the fact that these come in sets of Base Notes, Middle Notes, and Top Notes. Vanilla scents are typically heavier and are therefore Base Notes. The lighter scents like water, light florals and clean are top notes.

The three scents in this kit are Hawaiian Vanilla, Angel Food and Gingerbread. These cover three different types of vanilla fragrance that people love to wear: Spicy Vanilla, Sweet Vanilla, and Floral Vanilla. To be honest, there isn’t one I don’t like on its own but they can be even more amazing together!

Of the three, Hawaiian Vanilla is my favourite, I actually find myself wearing it on it’s own a lot when I’m in a rush to get out the door in the morning. If you are a vanilla lover, this kit is the one for you!

Other Mixes

One surprising thing I found is that these two kits actually work really well together. Sunshine is perfect with Hawaiian Vanilla and Clean Skin goes really well with Gingerbread – who knew? The possibilities are really endless with Demeter fragrances, and I also find myself mixing a lot of my older scents in to make new combinations. Another few of my favourite combinations are Hawaiian Vanilla and Piña Colada & Angel Food and Grapefruit.
