Wow! I haven’t done one of these posts in such a long time – actually, I haven’t done any posts in such a long time! Since switching jobs in June, I haven’t had much of a drive to blog when I get home. Why? I blog all day at work for other people’s blogs! But now I figure, hey, if I’m going to do all this work for them, I should spend a little time on my own. I still love writing and sharing my experiences and I really miss interacting with the Beauty community! So, to get back in the swing of things, I thought I would go back-to-basics with one of my favourite types of posts – favourites!
Sometimes I avoid doing favourites posts because, honestly, my favourites don’t change very often! I get hooked on a couple products and find myself only using those for months on end (I’m a terrible beauty blogger). But, since the weather has changed so much in the past couple months (we have snow), so have my skin care, hair care and makeup routines. So, I figured it was time to share my new loves with everyone.
1. Julep What Your Skin Needs Facial Milk – $28.00 USD (1oz)
I’m not sure if anyone else has noticed this but Julep almost has the exact same product line as Josie Maran. Think about it. Their first skin care item was pure Argan Oil (Josie’s namesake), then they came out with a Facial Cleansing Oil (One of Josie’s best sellers) and now they’ve ventured into Facial Milk territory (My favourite product in the Josie Maran line). I’m definitely not complaining since I love Josie’s facial care but can’t justify the outrageous price tags so it’s great to be able to find similar and equally effective products from the Julep line! This facial milk has become a staple in my routine ever since it came in the mail. I use it every morning as a base for my SPF and it gives me long lasting hydration without looking the least bit greasy. Perfect for the cold and dry winter months!
2. Smashbox Photo Op Under Eye Brightener – $22.00 CAD (0.24oz)
I’ve been using this product on and off for years, but only recently has it made its way back into my daily routine. Lately, I’ve been focusing on looking more awake, fresh and alive when it comes to my makeup so I’ve been foregoing mattes and embracing the glow. It’s made a huge difference and I’ve had a lot of people tell me I look “great” lately and “healthier” since I made the switch, which I am definitely okay with! I use this little guy under my eyes, on my cheek bones, on my brow bones and on my cupids bow to look fresh all day.
3. Lily Lolo Mascara – $19.50 USD (10.5ml)
I’m a mascara snob. If I find one I like, I won’t waver from it even for a minute, but every once in a while I feel adventurous and try one of the 80 sitting un-opened in my drawer. This one came in one of my Petit Vour subscription boxes and sat for a good 6 months before I tried it out. Once I did I was super surprised at how much I liked it, and it quickly became my go-to mascara. It builds awesome volume, mega length and doesn’t irritate my eyes at all – even when I take it off and get most of it in my eyeball. Lately, I’ve been topping it off with a more liquidy mascara (Revlon’s Ultimate All-In-One) to get even more length and definition.
4. Herbivore Lapis Facial Oil Roller – $26.00 CAD (0.17oz)
Oddly enough, I got this oil from Chapters and it was a total impulse buy! I had a $10 off coupon and found this while browsing the site for things to spend it on. I had seen this oil on Sephora’s website (along with all the other wonderful new Herbivore goodies) and was happy to find an affordable version to try out before I dove into the $70 bottle of this stuff. Now that I’ve tried it, I would have been very happy with the full size bottle but I’m glad I took the time to test it anyway. This oil is super light and is made up of Blue Tansy, Jojoba and Blue Yarrow to help with inflammation, oil production and to regulate skin bacteria. It’s a great oil for anyone with combination skin and still does a superb job of hydrating!
5. Lily Lolo BB Cream in Light – $22.00 USD (40ml)
I’m always terrified to try out new BB creams or foundations for fear they will break me out and I won’t be able to get my clear skin back ever again (okay, a bit dramatic but still). So when I ran out of my favourite Pixi H20 Skin Tint, I was reluctant to try another product, but the fact that there are no Target’s anymore and the shipping is insanity made me look else where. This Lily Lolo BB Cream is all natural and perfect all around. It’s lightweight, hydrating and has the perfect shade and amount of coverage. I haven’t had any problems with breakouts since getting it and I’m now about halfway through the bottle. Definitely a win!
6. PMD Personal Microdermabrasion – $208.00 CAD
I could not be happier that I decided to invest in this device! I recently had a 20% off coupon to spend at The Shopping Channel and while looking around I spotted this little gem. I had seen it on some YouTuber’s channels and saw that (most) people had great experiences with it. I’m a big fan of exfoliating so I figured this would be right up my alley. I ordered it and continued to watch YouTube videos about people’s experiences which included some not-so-glowing (pun intended) reviews. There were a few horror stories of people getting burns and rashes from this device which scared me away from using it once it came to my door. I debated returning it but decided to give it a shot on my hand and see how things went. First try, no unsightly burns. Phew. Second try, still no burning or redness. Okay, I was ready to try it on my face. I used the super-sensitive training disc that came with it to ensure I would do no damage to my skin, and guess what, it didn’t. And when I moved up to the next level of grit, still not even any redness. When I finally made my way up to the Medium disk (which most people use) I started seeing unreal results. Seriously, my skin is so smooth, so clear and practically flawless. I’ll do an in-depth review on this soon!
7. Julep Oxygen Nail Treatment in Sheer Shimmer – $14.40 USD (8ml)
At the beginning of the month, I decided to get gel nails for something different. I loved the way they turned out and loved having long, strong nails. But since I’m always wanting to try new things, I didn’t go back and get them filled. Instead, I filed them off and went back to au natural. Since getting gel nails can leave your nails feeling weak (mine were actually still in really good shape) it’s good to have a treatment to put on after removing them. I’ve been using Julep’s Nail Treatment in the new Sheer Shimmer colour. I’ve always loved their original version but the shimmer adds just a bit extra to make your nails look finished. I’ll be sticking to this for the next couple weeks!
8. HebeDerma Anti-Aging Serum – $129.00 CAD (1oz)
Before you start thinking “Holy crap that’s too expensive – next!”, hear me out! I was recently contacted by HebeDerma, a Canadian company who specializes in making the freshest, most natural serum and delivering it within days of being made, to test out their namesake serum. I jumped at the chance since this amazing formula only contains Water, Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid and I wanted to see how it stacked up to other serums I had been using. Well, it didn’t stack up – it went above and freaking beyond!! This serum has made such an amazing difference in my skin, I won’t ever be without it again (unless I’m super broke because it’s not cheap haha). It’s potent (and I mean potent) mix of actives gives you seriously glowing, hydrated skin. This coupled with my PMD is like skin care magic.
9. Shea Terra Organics Rooibos & Marula E Antioxidant Cream – $24.00 USD (2oz)
Earlier this year, I was asked by Shea Terra Organics to review a couple products (all of which I’m obsessed with and have since ordered more of) this Marula E Cre’me was one of them, although I hadn’t given it a fair run until recently. Since this facial moisturizer is so thick and rich, I didn’t use it much in the spring and summer months, but now that the wind is howling and the snow is falling, I’ve been reaching for it almost every night! This organic blend of Vitamin E, Marula Oil and Rooibos tea hydrates, plumps and delivers a mega dose of antioxidants to repair and replenish skin. Whenever I use it at night I wake up with refreshed, hydrated skin with no extra greasiness or breakouts in sight. It’s truly been a life saver this past month!
10. Make Up For Ever Artist Shadow in I-808 English Pink – $24.00 CAD (0.07g)
This little pan of golden pink shadow has really surprised me this past month. I recently picked up the 50 Shades of Grey Blush set from Winners which contained 3 Artist Shadows and a Brush, not thinking I would love any of the colours all that much. Turns out, I can’t go a day without wearing it – especially the I-808 English pink! This is the perfect “blushed from within” shade with a pretty touch of golden iridescence to compliment your healthy new flush. The booklet that came with the palette said that this was the blush the makeup artist on the 50 Shade’s of Grey movie set used every day on Dakota Johnson, and I can definitely see why! The palette also came with brighter coral shade (S-748) and a champagne highlighter (I-526) to complete the look.
11. Ogx Anti-Breakage Keratin Oil 3 Minute Miracle Recovery – $9.99 CAD (6.7oz)
This month I redid my ombre colour and went a touch lighter than I was before. I’m loving the results but I was starting to notice a bit of dryness and brittleness right after getting it done. I’m super picky about what I use on my hair and rarely waiver from my beloved Live Clean Apple Cider Shampoo and Evolvh Ultra-Shine Conditioner. But, I figured it was time I add a little boost to my routine to get my hair back in tip-top shape. I decided to give this Miracle Recovery formula from Ogx a try in hopes it would rescue my every-so-slightly damaged hair. Well, it did! After using this just a couple times my hair feels softer, shiner and back to its normal self! I’d highly recommend this to anyone with colour treated hair looking to prevent breakage and give it more shine!
