Good Morning Everyone! Hope your week is going well. It’s a bit dreary here in the Okanagan, but hey, it rains every year on my birthday (tomorrow) so what more should I expect! I thought I would brighten up the day with some fresh (fake) blooms and some even brighter mascara! I’m so excited to share this one with you guys, I had heard a lot about it before it came out and since I like the Voluminous range from L’Oreal already, I was super curious to see how this one would compare. So, here we have it – L’Oreal Miss Manga Mascara!
If you’ve read any of my other mascara posts, you may know that I’m a bit of a mascara snob. I rarely rely on drugstore mascaras for my day-to-day looks, instead I usually opt for my über pricy Chanel Volume De Chanel or Too Faced Better Than Sex. But, mascaras from the L’Oreal Voluminous line have definitely graced my everyday eye routine at one time or another, so I was thrilled to try out the new Miss Manga. Two of these mascaras were sent for consideration from L’Oreal and I decided to purchase the Waterproof version so I could compare the formulation. They all come in this super cute Manga inspired packaging, promising to give you “oversized volume” and the “Manga Effect”. Right now, the Original Black, Blackest Black & Black Brown also, Waterproof Black & Blackest Black and Black Brown are available in drugstores. And in July, they will be releasing the coloured versions, and boy are they coloured!
The wand is a fairly average, although tapered shape. It has bristles instead of the silicone nubs which I find apply product more evenly and separate lashes better. I also like the taper of this brush as it makes it much more easy to apply the mascara on your inner most corner and the lower lash line without ending up with half of it on your lids.
Another unique feature about this brush is the “bendy arm”. I don’t know what else to call it. The wand bends in the middle. I’m not entirely sure what the reason behind that is but I certainly don’t mind it. L’Oreal calls it the “360˚ Flexor brush” and it’s there to “amplify lashes”. I kind of like that it moves, I’m not sure why, I don’t think it really effects the application in any way.
Anyway, moving on! Like I said, I have both the Original and Waterproof versions, both in Blackest Black. If you’re like me and suffer from intense spring/summer/all-year allergies, you like to have a waterproof mascara at least on your lower lashes, just for a little insurance on those extra pollen-y days. I find (for overall use) I like the application of the Original formula better. I find the Waterproof version a little more stiff and I need to apply a couple extra coats in order to get the same effect as the original. I don’t have a comparison because the end result is the same, it just takes a little more effort!
The above photo is L’Oreal Miss Manga Mascara in Blackest Black applied on the upper and lower lashes. I did two coats on the top and just a light coat on the bottom. What I love about this mascara, surprisingly isn’t necessarily the volume. I like the defined, separated and plumped effect it gives. If you’re looking for a mascara for intense, dramatic volume only – there’s better ones. But, if you’re looking for a mascara that does it all, it’s this one.
Now, if you’re looking for something a little different, a little more bold, then you’re looking for Miss Manga in colours! The one I received was in Turquoise and it’s one of the best coloured mascaras I’ve used! The colour is in a white base so it’s really intense. It pretty much whites out your original lash colour and deposits a layer of intense pigmentation! This would be so much fun in the summer for festivals, parties or even just to brighten up an outfit! I can’t wait until the other shades come out!
Overall, I’ve been using this mascara daily(in Blackest Black, of course haha) since I received it. My Too Faced Better Than Sex has taken a back seat and Miss Manga has jumped in the front riding shot gun! If you see this in your local drugstore, definitely give it a try!
