Let me start with a confession – I’m a little bit scared of shimmer and glitter. Scratch that, I’m a little bit terrified of shimmer and glitter – but only on my face! Coming from a Beauty Blogger, I’m sure that sounds a little insane but I just can’t stand it when it looks like I fell in a pile of craft glitter and am trying to pass it off as eyeshadow (or blush, or lipgloss etc.). Having said that, I’m still very attracted to shiny things (hence my ridiculous glitter nail polish collection – See my Sally Hansen Mermaid’s Tale post)! Well, my fears were tested when I received Essence Metal Glam Eyeshadow’s in the mail recently. These are something I would have never picked up on my own, but thanks to Essence for pushing me out of my comfort zone and into a new glam world! I’m going to review each of these separately because I think they deserve their own posts! We will start with Coffee To Glow 02.

Even though I said I’m afraid of shimmer and glitter, I’m certainly not afraid to look at it! These are incredibly pretty eyeshadows, especially for the price! These retail for only $2.99 each. Have you ever seen such a wonderfully shimmery shadow for only $2.99?! I don’t think I have! Essence Metal Glam Eyeshadow’s are made to combine the best of two of the biggest trends right now – Metallic and intense shimmer.

Now, there’s a couple of things about these shadows that I need to address. First, the top layer of the shadow is a much more intense shimmer coating than the product underneath. This isn’t a bad thing. There is still intense shimmer once past the outer coating but with more of the shade pigmentation, so win-win! Next, they are super soft (in a good way) and apply smoothly but I found the best way to apply them is with either a silicone glitter brush or your finger tip. Once you try to use a brush it gets much to diffused on application!

Here’s the eye look I created using Essence Metal Glam Eyeshadow in Coffee to Glow. As you can see there is less pigmentation than in the pan, but I don’t think I was expecting a lot from these shadows given the description. They don’t claim to be “super pigmented” they claim to be “Metallic and Shiny” – which they definitely are! In the right light you even get a liquid look to the eye lid, which I have to say, I really liked! Just be aware that the colour in the pan is not the colour on the eye. These also wear a lot better than I expected! I wore these for 8 hours, maybe 9, without any creasing or smudging and I didn’t even use an eye primer. Definitely a welcome change since I have incredibly “greasy” eyelids which generally make any eye product wander. To finish this look I used Eyeko Skinny Mini Liquid Eyeliner, and L’Oreal Paris Miss Manga Mascara. I am also wearing Sonia Kashuk Hidden Agenda Concealer Palette under my eyes. Overall, I think these shadows have changed my mind about shimmer! Just like Consonant Skincare changed my mind forever about bar soap with their 20% Clay bar! Goes to show you just need to try new things because you’ll never know what you end up loving!
