I love beauty tools. I have more brushes and sponges (including three Beauty Blenders) than I could ever use on a daily basis – yet, I keep wanting more! This Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge is no exception, well, really anything by Real Techniques.
I was lucky enough to receive this sponge from Farley Co. for review and consideration a little while back and I don’t think it’s left my daily routine since! Depending on the type of coverage/product I’m using that day, I switch between the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge for a heavier (but flawless) coverage and the EcoTools Skin Perfecting Brush for a lighter finish.
As you may have seen, there are now many oddly shaped sponges on the market, all claiming to be the best at “perfecting”, “airbrushing” and even providing an “HD” finish. Looking at the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge, it certainly suits the bill! It boasts different sides and surfaces to provide multiple ways to perfect and smooth every little nook and cranny.
The flat side of the sponge is perfect for applying foundations and creams to larger areas of the face like cheeks and forehead. The pointed edges on the flat side provide precision edges to get into tiny spots like around the nose and around the eyes. The rounded side of the sponge is great for stippling over the skin to create a flawless airbrushed finish (seriously, it’s that good) and the small domed end helps to do the same in smaller areas.
Personally, I own three Beauty Blender Sponges and one Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge and out of all of them, I reach for this one 10x more often. The Beauty Blender only has the rounded and domed areas, which are great, but can’t get into small crevasses like the Real Techniques sponge can with it’s sharp (but clearly super soft) edges. Not to mention, the Real Techniques sponge retails for a fraction of the cost of the original Beauty Blender.
With all reusable sponges, I like to wet them before I use them to apply product. Not only does this make the sponge grow by about two times it’s normal size (which is kind of fun), but it also prevents excess makeup from being absorbed into the sponge – therefore, wasting less product!
If you’re looking to try out a Beauty Blender-esque sponge, I highly recommend going with the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge. You get more features, same great quality and at a fraction of the price!
