Do you Tattoo your Eyelids? I do, with Maybelline Color Tattoo Eyeshadow!

Drugstore, Eye Products, Eyeshadow, Maybelline / Saturday, February 11th, 2012

I’m not sure I’ve ever wanted to tattoo colour onto my eyelids, but when the option came along for a less permanent version of said activity, I thought I’d give it a try. I decided to pick up a Maybelline Color Tattoo Eyeshadow in 35 Tough as Taupe, the most neutral of the shades. I wanted to be able to use it alone as a subtle shadow with liner for day or as a base for a brown or black smokey eye.

I like the claim of having 24 hour wear, I’m not sure who would need their eyeshadow to last for 24 hours but it’s good to know that if I was in such a situation my eyeshadow wouldn’t let me down!

I’m a big fan of Benefit’s Creaseless Cream Shadows so I was excited to see that there may be a new drug store option. To be honest, I’ve owned this for a while and hadn’t used it until recently because I’ve stuck to my tried and true options. I finally cracked it open the other day and was pleasantly surprised with what I found!

*Note: the colour looks a little lighter in this photo than it truly is.

I like the idea of a taupe shadow, it can be worn with so many other colours and provides a great base shade. This shade looks matte in the pot but once applied has a tiny bit of iridescence, nothing glittery or shimmery.

This is a swatch (one swipe) without flash.

With flash.

This is Tough as Taupe applied to my eyelid with no base and no other shades. As you can see by itself it tends to look a little bit muddy. I’m not sure if this is just due to my light skin tone or if it would appear this way on everyone. The good news about this product is it truly does last all day. This shadow is even hard to remove with regular cleanser and water, I would definitely recommend having a waterproof eye makeup remover to help out. The swatch I had on my hand was still visible after multiple hand washings with regular soap and water, washing dishes and a shower (although I wasn’t scrubbing trying to remove it). I was absolutely shocked at the wear time of this shadow! Truly amazing, although it did fade in colour a tiny bit throughout the day. I hope Maybelline comes out with more shades of these, I’m not one to wear bright colours on my eyes so some more neutrals would be very welcome!

Mine definitely came off in the shower, but I wouldn’t want it to stay lol! 🙂 glad you’re liking it so far!

    • I had such a hard time getting this off! I can still see remnants of it on my hand (and I do wash my hands well, I’m a germaphobe) haha I do like it though! 🙂

I have been using this product and I really like it.  I like that it isn’t glittery/shimmery so it makes for a good neutral shadow and I love how long it lasts.  I too enjoy Benefit’s Crease-less Cream shadows but wish they had some matte options.  This fulfilled that wish.

    • Hi Lisa! I like matte shades as well, especially in neutral colours, they are just so versatile! As for the matte Benefit shades, I actually have two! I forget what they are called but they were limited edition at Sephora a couple years ago and you got two in a pack for like $15 (craziness!), I bought them for everyone I knew! haha

  • I’ve heard so much about this product! Tough as Taupe looks so pretty xxx

I haven’t had either one and wish I had!
